Hello Students! The past several months have flown by it would seem. Please do remember to pay member dues. They literally keep the school running online and will allow us to find a space when the time is right! Speaking of timing, I feel it is important to be transparent when it comes to finding a new home. I’m not sure what the right time is yet. Your safety is my highest priority. This art is very close contact. There are many things we can do besides Chi Sau, and drills until we can feel safe about contact. I am planning on sub-leasing from a dance, yoga, or martial arts studio so there isn’t a huge overhead. That’s what killed our last practice space, and the one I moved us to shortly before that business collapsed due to the lack of funds. This means that during Phase 1 (a 21-day phase) and Phase 2 we will have some major restrictions mainly concerning physical distancing, masks while practicing and limiting touch as much as possible. I’ll start looking for a place after Multnomah County has entered phase 2. Expect Private lessons and very small group classes first before we get a space. Please contact me if you are interested in 1 on 1 lesson to work out details. If you are currently a paying student or have paid into the Pay It Forward fund, you are entitled to one Private class per month beginning this month.
Offical wording on the Phase 1 Reopening Guide is as follows:
• Prohibit contact sports that involve participants coming into bodily contact, close
quarters (less than six (6) feet apart), or using shared equipment (e.g., basketball,
squash, racquetball, taekwondo, karate, wrestling, mixed martial arts).
• For one-to-one personal training, maintain six (6) feet of physical distance between
trainer and client. If close contact within six (6) feet is unavoidable, it is strongly
recommended that the client wear a face covering and the time during which close
contact occurs is minimized. Trainer and client should thoroughly wash hands with soap
and warm water or use hand sanitizer (60-95% alcohol content) immediately before and
• Record client contact information, date and time for client facility use. If there is a
positive COVID-19 case associated with the facility, public health officials may need the
business to provide this information for a contact tracing investigation. Unless otherwise
required, this information may be destroyed after 60 days from the session date.
In the meantime, please keep practicing your Forms, stancing, and striking. Watch the recorded classes and practice along. You will find those are in the Student Resource Section of our website. If you can’t attend the live Virtual classes, but want to still watch all the recorded videos, please consider making a donation to our Pay it Forward fund in whatever amount feels best to you. If you have a question, just shoot me a message or video for me to review. Don’t be strangers, reach out, and say hi. I miss you all greatly and would love to connect on a personal level.
